Pear Soup is a medicinal sweet dish from Shandong Cuisine. It moistens the lungs, enhances complexion, relieves cough and phlegm, stimulates appetite, and helps prevent heatstroke. The pears used are large, thin-skinned, crisp, and juicy. After being peeled and cored into a jar shape, they are filled with a stuffing of candied tangerine peel, dried longan, wax gourd strips, pitted red dates, hawthorn cake, green plums, and steamed glutinous rice. The pears are then steamed over high heat and finished with a sweet syrup made from sugar, water, and osmanthus paste.
